England’s David Pearson will take charge of Leinster’s opening Heineken Cup Pool 2 clash against Racing Metro 92 in the RDS on Saturday, 9th October…
Tournament organisers ERC has announced the referees for the opening two rounds of European club rugby’s elite tournament.
Nigel Owens will join ARLB pair Alan Lewis and Alain Rolland and English official Chris White in reaching the half century of tournament matches – Lewis taking his record mark to 67 matches when he controls tournament newcomers Toulon’s home match with the Ospreys.
And making their tournament referee bows will be John Lacey (Ireland), who will take charge of Northampton Saints against Castres Olympique in Round 1 and JP Doyle (England), who will control Perpignan against Benetton Treviso in Round 2.
Lacey, the former Munster wing who scored four tries in six Heineken Cup appearances for the Irish province in the 1997 / 1998 tournament, joins Rolland (Leinster) and Malcolm Changleng (The Borders) in both playing in and refereeing Heineken Cup matches.
