On Wednesday, over 260 5th and 6th class students from six local primary schools descended on Parkview Community Centre to participate in a tag rugby blitz.

Schools that attended on the day were Mary Help of Christians, St John Bosco’s, St Catherine’s, St Finbarr’s, Christ the King BNS, and Dublin 7 Educate Together.

There were many close games throughout the day due to the high standard of play. Pupils had prepared for the blitz with the help of Leinster Rugby’s Community Rugby Officer Stephen Maher and DCC Sports Officer Marie Louise Reilly in the weeks leading up to the blitz.

The schools, teachers and pupils showed great commitment preparing for the big day and it really showed with a high level of skill and sportsmanship.

Thanks go to the principals and staff from each of the schools for attending the blitz and helping to make the day a huge success, and the pupils for togging out and turning the day into both a competitive and good-natured event, enjoyed by the teachers and parents in attendance.

On the back of such a successful blitz, Dublin City Council and Leinster Rugby are delighted to announce the start of a new mini rugby club in the Cabra area. The Cabra Crusaders is run by Leinster Rugby, and is all about ‘Giving Rugby a Try’.
