Schools in Dublin’s North West have begun taking part in Leinster Rugby and Dublin City Council’s Tag Rugby programme, which is designed around the principle of broadening both interest and participation in the game of rugby.
Over the past number of weeks, at primary level, schools such as St Brigid’s Senior Girls, St Fergal’s BNS, Gaelscoil Uí Earcáin in Finglas and Glasnevin Educate Together have been taking part.
At Secondary School level, Cabra Community College and St Vincent’s CBS (Glasnevin) have local community development officers from Leinster Rugby in place during their PE classes, learning the skills of rugby through a Game-based Approach.
The game encourages the build-up of running and handling skills, while the ultimate objective is for players to enjoy themselves.
The players will learn the skills of catching, passing, evasion, discipline and teamwork.

“The growth of rugby in the city is dependent on young players taking up the game, while also concentrating on the fun and fitness aspect that is important at this stage in their development. We look forward to the next few years and hope to find the next Leinster Rugby star.”
