This season Edenderry boys primary school took part in Leinster Rugby’s Tag rugby programme for the first time in three seasons…
Edenderry RFC CCRO Patsy Gorman approached new school principal Nicola McMahon with the hope to coaching tag rugby in the school.
Gorman was delighted with the response he got as Ms McMahon was very enthusiastic and gave the CCRO access and allocated time to work with the school pupils. This is a rugby partnership that hasn’t looked back ever since.
Throughout the season CCRO Gorman has worked with four different class groups in the school. He brought the Heineken cup to the school which was a fantastic day, with Ger Ryan’s class in particular wearing full Leinster colours all day. The school has also attended a Leinster home match in the RDS through the one province ticketing system.
And the culmination of a great rugby year for the school was the school attending a Tag Rugby blitz for the first time in Edenderry RFC organised by CCRO Gorman which was a great experience for the only boys school in the local area.
CCRO Gorman said: “It is great for me in my third year as CCRO to actual be given access to the school, and for the pupils, they have been able to avail of many of the positives associated with the Leinster Rugby CCRO programme, such as tag rugby, the Heineken Cup tour, the ‘one province’ ticketing initiative and representing their school at tag rugby blitzes”.
