The Bank of Ireland Leinster Senior Cup and Shield competitions play a vital role in providing Leinster AIL Clubs with competitive fixtures that are an ideal preparation for the AIL season.
. Semi-finalists for the Bank of Ireland Leinster Senior Cup are UCD v Lansdowne and Terenure v Old Belvedere. Semi-finalists for the Bank of Ireland Leinster Senior Shield see Greystones take on Tullamore and Wanderers v Bective.
This season sees the 130th edition of the Leinster Senior Cup in action. The first winner of this prestigious Leinster competition was won in 1882 by Dublin University FC. The Leinster Senior Cup was ‘the’ competition in Leinster before the onset of the All Ireland League. Many famous or infamous faces have graced the playing fields in this competition such as Philip Orr, Ciaran Fitzgerald, Robbie McGrath, Ollie Campbell, Jim Glennon, Brent Pope, Trevor Brennan, Neil Francis – the list goes on …
Bank of Ireland Senior Cup Semi finals
UCD v Lansdowne- 18th of November. 7.30pm KO
UCD will have home advantage following their victories over Cup holders Clontarf, Skerries and Old Wesley which saw them top Section A. Lansdowne made it into the semi-finals as runner up in Section B having beaten MU Barnhall, Blackrock but lost narrowly to Old Belvedere. UCD have won the Leinster Senior Cup 9 times with Lansdowne holding an impressive 25 titles.
Terenure v Old Belvedere-14th of November
Terenure topped Section C with victories over St. Mary’s, Dublin University and Naas. Opposing them will be Section B winners Old Belvedere who defeated Lansdowne, Blackrock and MU Barnhall and will have home advantage over their opponents Old Belvedere. Old Belvedere have won the competition 12 times with Terenure winning 5 titles so far.
The first final of the Leinster Senior Shield was played in 2011 with Old Wesley being the victors on the day.
Senior Shield Semi Finals
Greystones v Tullamore
Greystones will host Tullamore in Park. Greystones reached this season’s semi-finals with victories over Navan, Boyne and Bective to come out on top of Section A.
Wanderers v Bective
Current Shield holders and Wanderers topped Section B having beaten Seapoint, Tullamore and Dundalk.
