The Bank of Ireland Leinster Rugby Summer Camps rolled on into their 2nd week in three locations across the province. The camps, which will run every week through mid August, were held this week in Kilkenny RFC, Coolmine RFC and Terenure College RFC.
More than 200 talented young players took part in the 5 day camp where they developed their rugby skills, met new friends, and got an opportunity to meet and play alongside some of Leinster’s senior players. Jamie Heaslip, Kane Douglas, Mick Kearney, Rob Kearney, Sean O’Brien and Johnny Sexton; in his first appearance back for Leinster, went out to the camps and did a Q&A session, signed autographs, and got involved with some games with the young players.
Ken Moore, camp manager at the Terenure camp commented on the passion of the young players; “ It was great to see the campers enthusiasm for rugby each day; especially considering the rain and cold weather at the start of the week. All of the kids tackled the drills and games full on and have made huge progress. It’s a very positive indicator for the future of the Irish squad in ten years time! Being able to meet some of their Leinster heroes proved to be a very inspiring experience that had the kids buzzing in camp.”
Next week, will be a busy week for coaches with camps going on in Balbriggan RFC, Greystones RFC, Lansdowne FC, and Mullingar RFC. The Lansdowne Camp is sold out, but spaces are still available in the other 3 venues.
