The Leinster Rugby Summer Programmes, proudly sponsored by Bank of Ireland, have been a huge hit year after year on our rugby pitches throughout the province.

However, due to COVID-19, our 2020 summer camps were originally cancelled in June, but as restrictions eased nationally, Leinster Rugby, along with our host venues and the Club COVID Officers, were able to offer five weeks of summer camps starting on Monday, 20 July.

This year saw 22 Leinster Rugby Summer Camps take place around the province.

We had 986 girls and boys take part in the Bank of Ireland Leinster Rugby Summer camps, and 45 different rugby clubs around the province represented at all our camps.

The camp has proven to be a positive experience with the vast majority of parents stating they were happy with this year’s new safety protocols put in place and that they would return for future camps or recommend the camp to a friend.

A full risk assessment and safety plan was completed in all camp venues to ensure HSE and IRFU guidelines were being adhered to at all times.

With the safety controls at all our camp venues, we are delighted to say there were no cases of COVID-19 throughout our five weeks of camps.

Declan Fassbender, Community Rugby Manager for Leinster Rugby, said, “A big thank you has to go to our host clubs this summer, with full risk assessments and safety plans completed in all camp venues, the time and effort by our clubs to ensure our Summer Camps took place, was fantastic!

“Programme Manager, Ray McCabe deserves a medal! Throughout us all learning how best to adapt to the circumstances presented, Ray at every level resolved all issues with a ‘can do’ and even an ‘it’s done’ attitude. Thanks and a huge well done are deserved for Ray, our coaches and all host clubs.”
