St. Gerard’s completed a highly successful season by winning the Senior Rice Cup in the annual Pres Bray Rice Cup and Family Gala Day…

The final of the eight team seven a side tournament was an all Bray affair with Gerard’s defeating a young Pres Bray team. Teams from CBC Monkstown, Newbridge College, Pres Cork, Newpark Comprehensive, St. Andrew’s, and Greystones RFC also competed for the coveted prize with Newbridge winning the Plate Final.

Newbridge College also collected silverware in the Junior Rice Cup by overcoming CBC Monkstown in the decider. With eight schools represented and the new primary school section of Pres Rugby, Pres Cubs, taking part over 200 players took to the field over the course of a very enjoyable afternoon.

This event is fast gaining a reputation as Ireland’s leading schools seven-a-side tournament. With the building a new school and sports hall in Pres the future is looking bright for the Putland Road School.

The Family Gala Day offered a range of activities for kids including slides, sumo suit wrestling, gladiator contests and bouncy castles. Organisers also laid on a feast of barbecued food, gourmet teas and coffees, ice cream and soft drinks. Award winning local band “The Peakin Trippers” entertained the crowds with an excellent live performance.

Pres Bray would like to thank Greenstar, and Pres. Past Pupils Union and Cllr Mick Glynn for their continued support of the Rice Cup and Family Gala Day.
