On Saturday at the Leinster v Scarlets Heineken Cup game at the RDS, there will be carol singing by Alexandra College Choir behind both of the main stands to raise money for one of Leinster’s official charities, ‘Welcome Home’…
The collection for ‘Welcome Home’ takes place inside the ground only.
‘Welcome Home’ has been raising money since 1990 to support the work of Fr. Peter McVerry with young homeless people in Dublin. Peter McVerry opened a hostel for young homeless people in 1979.
The Peter McVerry Trust now provides a wide range of services including six hostels, a drug detox centre and two drug aftercare houses as well as fifteen apartments for independent living. The Trust currently supports more than 400 people annually.
“The financial support from Welcome Home over the years has allowed us to provide much-needed accommodation and other services to homeless and disadvantaged young people in Dublin. We would not be in existence today if it were not for Welcome Home’s support, particularly in the early years”, said Fr. McVerry.
