To finish off a great week with the Leinster League Division 3 Trophy being presented by Trevor Merry Swords RFC were delighted to receive sponsorship this week from a rapidly expanding North Dublin business – Irish Custom Extruders – who make environmentally friendly slatted cow mats for export worldwide…

Tony Dunne of Irish Custom Extruders said he was delighted to be linking in with a growing and successful club in the community and the sponsorship fitted neatly with their commitment to supporting local clubs.

It is hoped that the success of both parties continues into 2014.

Despite the loss to Guinness in the last league game of the season this season represents a big change in fortune as the club struggled to win a game last season and even score tries. This year has seen a new buy in to a more expansive game plan and 34 tries in their games represents a good pay back to the lads commitment to play rugby. Two narrow defeats to Edenderry and Birr saw the Fingal side slip out of the super 6 but perhaps winning Division 3 rather than a mid to low placing in Div 2B will give the team a shot of confidence to take into the Towns Cup and onwards to next season.

There is some old dogs retiring but it is hoped the youthful nature of the team can grow together and attract in other younger players that have slipped through the net at other senior clubs in the north of Dublin. Plans are currently afoot to see if the current coaching team can be kept together and where and how further players can be found to get the club back running two teams.
