It was a day for the forwards on a blustery afternoon in Highschool on Wednesday as Templeogue College earned a home replay next week…

Highschool took the lead early on from a fantastic driving mall that saw their powerful forwards finish from 15 yards out. Templeogue weathered the Highschool pressure after that and slowly battled back into the game. Their pack raised the tempo with captain and Leinster Schools player Eric O’ Sullivan leading the way. Quick recycling of the ball saw the number 8 David Rowan dive low over the line to equalise ten minutes before half time

Both sides battled extremely hard and moved the ball well on the few opportunities they had to do so. Highschools’ 10, Luke O’Brien worried the Templeogue defence, breaking through the centre and off-loading to back row Dave Aspil. Templeogue recovered well and took the lead with a wonderful penalty from out-half Mathew Timmons. The penalty was soon cancelled out however after wave upon wave of Highschool attack; inches from the Templeogue try line. In a tense game Templeogue had a chance to win it within the last five minutes, but Timmons’ strike was taken narrowly wide by the wind.

The game ended 8 a piece and will be replayed in Templeogue College at 14.30 Wednesday 27th.
