It was with great sadness that Leinster Rugby learned of the passing of Terry Doyle on Friday morning…

We extend our deepest sympathies to the Doyle family, especially to his wife Deirdre, daughters Andrea and Susie and his sons, who shared their father’s love for refereeing, JP and Mark.

Terry Doyle was a member of Terenure College RFC where he was due to take over the club’s Presidency.

He served as President of the Associations of Referees for the 2006/07 season, a year in which he brought the association back to grassroots, bringing many meetings to clubs outside of Dublin. Terry was a great friend and advisor to many referees and got a significant number of officials on the road.

Always keen to help referees progress, he always had some friendly advice which was delivered in his usual good humour. For many referees he was the first point of contact if they had a problem or something to discuss and you always felt better after a conversation and a joke with him.

A brother of Benny Doyle – who sat on the Leinster Branch Executive for a considerable period – Terry will be greatly missed by Terenure College RFC, Leinster Rugby Referees and everyone who knew him.
