The DLSP Eagles are a Tag Rugby team made up of players with additional needs…
The team are a big part of De La Salle Palmerston Rugby Club, a club with over a hundred years of experience in developing players. Tag rugby has experienced unparalleled growth in Ireland over the past number of years and that growth has given opportunities for everyone to get involved, have fun and make new friends, on and off the rugby pitch.
The primary focus of playing tag rugby is to get players with additional needs to appreciate the game of rugby, develop ball handling and spatial awareness, helping to develop skills and fitness to improve their daily lives. The coaching team are made up of dedicated volunteers with a wide range of skills and experience, including rugby coaches, players, and learning disability professionals, all of whom are Garda vetted.
The Salmo Eagles train on Sunday morning’s at 12 noon in Kirwan Park, Kilternan, between Stepaside and Enniskerry. We also arrange fixtures with other teams in Dublin and further afield, and the team have regularly appeared at half time during Leinster Rugby matches in the RDS as well as the Aviva Stadium!
We do our best to cater for all ages and abilities and games are played with the emphasis on having fun, as is the case in all our games. Some of our players are high dependency, in which case a shadow coach will be on the pitch with them, while the shadow coaches are not allowed to score, they act as a minder helping to keep the game moving, encouraging the participants, and watching out for any signs that any player is under stress.
If you are interested please call Dave 0872565656 or Barry 0868800620 or just come up any Sunday morning at noon, everyone is most welcome! Players usually wear track suits, boots, preferably, or runners.
