For this week’s Throwback Thursday we revisit a trip to Murrayfield which saw Leinster defeat this weekend’s opponents, Edinburgh, thanks to tries from Gordon D’Arcy, Ian Madigan and Johnny Sexton.
Leinster headed into this PRO12 tie back in January 2013 with Brian O’Driscoll, Luke Fitzgerald and Rob Kearney all returning from injury ahead of two crucial Heineken Cup pool games
It was O’Driscoll’s centre partner that made the most telling contribution for Leinster in the first half, D’Arcy running in the province’s second try after a penalty try had been awarded earlier in the half.
The two converted tries plus a Sexton penalty gave Leinster a 17-6 lead going in at the break – Greg Laidlaw knocking over two penalties for the Scottish side.
In the second half Sexton scored Leinster’s third try after being teed up by Shane Jennings, who had come on for Kevin McLaughlin in the 48th minute.
Ian Madigan secured the bonus point, diving in under the posts to score Leinster’s fourth try of the game and his fifth of the season.
Edinburgh scored a late consolation try through Willem Nel, converted by Laidlaw, but Leinster still left with all five points, winning 31-16.
Leinster supporters also travelled in great numbers over to Edinburgh, with plenty taking in the sights in the Scottish capital!
