Tullamore Rugby Club held a Golf Classic at the start of the month in Esker Hills G.C which was well supported with well over 100 golfers of varying abilities playing on the day…
The course was in its usual brillant condition, pity about some of the golf played!
A feature of the day was the prize of a Toyota Avensis worth over €;29,000 supplied by Lambe Bros,Arden Rd in association with the Rugby Club for a hole in one on the 13th (Par 3).
No winner but a prize of some golf gear donated by Shane Lowry for the nearest player Phonsie Daly who was just over two foot away from the pin.
There were prizes for the other three Par 3’s and the winner of both the two longest drives at nominated holes was Paul Smith
The classic was won by the 4 man team of Jimmy Feery who played with three past Captains of Esker Hills in Frank Ryan,Sean Doolan and Paul Stewart.
The organisers of the Classic from the Rugby Club Ciaran Lynch and Stephen Lynam who were last out came in a close 2nd with team members Eric Conway and Alan Clarke.
The longest drive of the day was easily won by rugby club stalwart Bart Doherty who was miles ahead of his nearest rivals.
Everyone was certainly well fed with a meal afterwards in the Clubhouse and Supermac’s the main Rugby Club sponsor providing burgers from the BBQ on the 12th tee.
Prizes were presented back in the Rugby Club later that evening by new Club President Gerry Egan who was just 24 hours in the job.
