Tullamore sealed the 2010 Culliton Cup when they edged Co. Carlow 31-30 in a terrific game of rugby played by two sides who ran the ball all day long on Bank Holiday Monday…

Tullamore will savour the narrowest of victories who captured the Culliton Cup for the sixth time in Donnybrook thanks chiefly to scoring 12 points in the last 12 minutes.

This final will also be remembered for the exhibition given by the Fennell twins, David and Paul, from Kilbeggan who scored four tries and generally put fear into the Co. Carlow defence every time they ran the ball. In the end it came down to a pressure conversion kick with five minutes to go and eight metres from touch.

“Cometh the hour, cometh the man” as second row forward Pietro Scarnicchio who was returning from injury calmly kicked the two points to put Tullamore ahead.

This win had looked unlikely as Tullamore were 11 points behind with 12 minutes remaining in an eight try feast of attacking rugby by both teams.
