Roscrea-Birr Rebels 13 – Boyne 11
A close fought game in the Curragh rugby club saw the R&B rebels knock Boyne out at the semi-final stage. Boyne’s forwards competed well but the heavy pitch and constant rain meant Boyne’s backs weren’t able to play their fast offloading game. R&B rebels scored a drop-goal from an early attack and then a lapse in defensive concentration and some missed first up tackles from Boyne saw a converted try put the score at 10 – 0. Boyne grew into the game and with the forwards exerting a lot of pressure R&B conceded a number of penalties, 2 of which were in kicking range and both were successfully converted to leave the 1/2 time score at 10 – 6 to R&B.
A quick start to the second half saw R&B convert a penalty to go 13 – 6 up. Boyne again dominated but couldnt break down the opposition. Two difficult penalties were missed before Ciaran Clinton scored out wide with 5 minutes to go. A missed conversion left R&B 2 points clear and Boyne were unable to launch another attack.
