A little piece of history was created in November when Ballymun hosted a competitive game of rugby for the first time. Unidare RFC played Tallaght RFC in the Leinster Junior League at Balcurris Park and Unidare came away with an 8-5 victory in a hard fought game…
The senior game was preceded by an Under-17 game between Unidare and North Kildare. The Unidare Youths, many of whom were playing their first ever game of rugby, fought valiantly against a much more experienced North Kildare team but were eventually beaten 37-0.
Commenting on both games Unidare’s Chairman, Kevin Furey said that he was delighted that so many local people had come out to support the club and that the future was bright for rugby in Ballymun and Finglas. Kevin also expressed his thanks to Ballymun Regeneration and to Leinster Rugby for the help and assistance in promoting rugby within the community.
Established in 1958, Unidare RFC is actively recruiting new players.
