March 11th saw a number of primary schools in West Offaly area converge on West Offaly Lions RFC for a 3rd/4th class blitz…
The schools that attended the blitz were:
• St Mary’s Pullough NS
• Lumcloon NS
• High St NS
• St Cynocs Ferbane NS
Over 80 pupils from 3rd and 4th class were in attendance for the tag rugby blitz and the weather made rugby playing conditions perfect.
The teams were made up of boys and girls that are currently playing rugby with West Offaly Lions, other clubs and players that have never played rugby at all. This gave the games a nice blend of experience, excitement and freshness.
Corey Carty CCRO of West Offaly was really happy with the day. “The kids have really enjoyed their tag rugby over the last few weeks and it’s a great and fun way for them to try out their new skills against other schools”.
Corey says rugby participation is greatly improving in West Offaly. “I think rugby is definitely on the rise with the Club Community Rugby Officer program being a huge success and an inspiration to many young people to take up the game”.
