Guinness RFC was founded in 1943, and operates in a predominantly non-rugby playing area of South Dublin…
The senior team is currently playing in J2 League Section B. The 2nd team plays in J3 League and they are fielding Under-17, 19 and 21 levels in addition to a large thriving Mini section.
Fundraising events like this are essential to the operation of the club, as despite our club name, we receive no sponsorship whatsoever.
The senior players themselves came up with the idea of running a “White Collar Boxing” night and 24 players are putting themselves through an eight-week boxing training programme in the National Boxing Stadium, under the watchful eyes of the Irish National Boxing Coaches, building up to the fight night on 23rd October.
They have worked extremely hard, and it has been difficult fitting in both boxing and rugby training, along with the league campaign which is now well underway.
It promises to be a night to remember, with live music, food, raffle etc as well as the main boxing event – 12 bouts of boxing under amateur rules.
All the hard work that is being put into the event will be to no avail without supporters turning up in large numbers. Admission on the night is €;10 and tickets are currently available from the club at 01-4556763, and from Tony Keogh at 087-1218026 (anthony.keogh@schindler.com).
