Gerry Cruise and Eoin Deering have a great deal in common. Both men are past presidents of the club…
Many other past presidents have often been prepared to stand down after their time in office and re-join the ranks of the ordinary members. This was not on the agenda for Gerry and Eoin.
The two men have had a very long involvement with the administration of the game at Old Belvedere RFC. They are affectionately referred to as Zig and Zag by many of the members at Anglesea Road but the nicknames present a complete understatement of the work and commitment that they have given to the club over many years and are now giving another year of their very professional services, but all on a volunteer basis.
They had worked very hard over the years in contributing to, among other things: playing at junior level- ensuring an extended playing career, training under-age players at mini and youth levels, grounds management, fund raising for touring teams, refereeing for the Leinster Branch and now they are joint managers of the first XV at Old Belvedere.
Gerry was President for the 2000/01 season and Eoin’s term took place during 2005/06. Following Eoin’s spell in high office, without much hesitation, if any, he joined up with Gerry to help with the work of team management.
They have been managing the first XV together since then and have overseen the club’s promotion to Division 1 of the AIL at the end of the 2006/07 season. The members at OBRFC wish Gerry and Eoin all the best for yet another season.
