John joined Leinster as a team doctor in 2008.
He is Professor of Emergency Medicine at UCD and has been a Consultant at St Vincent’s University Hospital since 2001. Having trained in Dublin, London, Brighton and Sydney he was previously a consultant in King’s College Hospital, London and Brighton.
He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine and has a Diploma in Sports Medicine from Dublin University.
He has published numerous textbook chapters and papers on sports medicine and sits on the board of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine.
John is Chair of the Training Committee of the Faculty and is Vice Dean for Advanced Emergency Medicine Training in Ireland. He has been team doctor for the Irish Schools Rugby team since 2012 and serves as match day doctor for International Rugby matches at Aviva Stadium.
As a player he captained Railway Union RFC for two seasons and trialed with the Leinster Junior team before injury stopped his playing career.
